While speaking, one of the protestor said that the inspite of providing jobs to the thousands of unemployed Engineers, the Administration is abolishing Self Help Groups (SHGs) of engineers and their work quota of 30 percent.
“Over 15000 young unemployed Engineers earning their bread and butter by working through Self Help Groups in various departments like R&B, PMGSY, PHE, PDD, REW etc will lose their job”, he added.
This anti-youth decision of the UT Administration is not acceptable to us, he asserted.
The UT Administration decision has shocked the families of these hapless engineers who are working for the last about 16 years, another protestor said, adding that inspite of providing job to the unemployed engineers, the Government is snatching the means of their livelihood.
Meanwhile, around dozen protestors were detained by the police and later were released by First Class Magistrate.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Self Help Group of Engineers who have been rendered jobless after the Government ordered it’s winding up today tried to hold a dharna outside the Civil Secretariat here, however the same was foiled by the police.
The Engineers were intending to meet the Chief Secretary, but their plan did not materialize as the police stationed outside the Civil Secretariat dispersed them off.
After that, the State President of the Self Help Group of Engineers Association Er Syed Pervez Hussain addressed the media and briefed them about the reasons behind assembling outside the Civil Secretariat.
He said that while they are on roads since August 10 against that decision that was taken unilaterally, the Government has not bothered to meet them despite knowing the fact that they are the main stakeholders of the scheme.
“We want to know why they have taken such a decision without the consent of the Employment Department and snatched our livelihood all of a sudden,” he said.
Self Help Group of Engineers has demanded immediate revocation of the orders without any further delay.
