Enforce labour laws in all States: Tarigami

UDHAMPUR, Nov 6: Demanding enforcement of Labour Laws, State Committee of Indian Trade Unions on the call of Construction Workers Federation of India (CWFI) held a protest at Mini Stadium here.
Holding placards and banner, large number of construction workers working in two construction projects of J&K–four laning of road and railways from different districts participated and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
Speaking on the occasion, M Y Tarigami, State president, CITU, said that they have been demanding enforcement of labour laws and stringent punitive measures for violation of labour laws.
He also demanded Rs 10,000 as minimum wages for all workers, reduction of prices of essential commodities and building materials as also housing facilities for all workers.
Tarigami further said that the Central Welfare Acts for construction workers should be implemented in all States.
He further demanded that all the workers working in construction activitiers in four lane and railway projects should be registered and benefits should be extended to them immediately.
Addressing the gathering, Sham Prasad Kesar, senior leader of CITU and Om Parkash, general secretary, said that today all the construction workers all over the country are on strike and demonstrating in support of their demands.
Among others who spoke were Arshad Malik, Abdul Rashid, president and general secretary of construction of tunnel and four lane workers union and Sunita Bhagat, secretary, ASHA Workers Union, etc.
