SRINAGAR, Jan 21: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said the encounters can’t be stopped in Kashmir till there is a conflict and presence of militants.
Mehbooba said this while addressing party workers convention at her Gupkar residence today. She said that those who talk about stopping encounters should know that they appreciated those police officers who were involved in fake encounters.
She said that NC president showered praises for the SSP who was involved in a fake encounter. “Farooq Abdullah appreciated the SSP who was behind Pathribal “fake encounter.” He showered praises for him in Assembly. During Omar’s time numerous encounters happened. No one can stop encounters,” she said.
Mehbooba said their alliance with BJP was based on a well drafted Agenda of Alliance. “During my stint, I stuck to the Agenda of Alliance. The other reason we joined hands with BJP was to give security for the Muslims of Jammu. After BJP swept polls in Jammu the Muslims there felt insecure. It was important for us to ally with BJP,” she added.
The PDP president asserted that the party did not come into being for the purpose of securing power but to get the State out of the crisis that has consumed many generations of the State.
Mehooba said that her party always stood for safeguarding the interests of the people of the State. “We have always stood to safe guard the interests of the people of the State and unwavering support of our people saw us usher in landmark developments like opening of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawlakote roads, Cross-LoC trade, impetus in Indo-Pak dialogue process, unilateral ceasefire by the security forces in the State, quashing almost 1200 FIRs against youth registered since 2008 to name a few”, she said.
Welcoming a young social-political activist Muhammad Yaseen from Chadoora into the party fold, Mehbooba underlined that the agenda of peace and reconciliation as envisaged by late Mufti Mohammad Soyeed is attracting youth who are being given a chance to write their own destiny.
Yaseen while joining the party along with his supporters, lauded Mehbooba for the uncompromising character she has shown in the face of all adversities.”Jammu and Kashmir is a complex problem that needs a roadmap beyond development for its resolution and PDP is the only party that has, not only a clear roadmap to this effect, but a proven track record too”, he said.
On this occasion, Party’s general secretaries and former Ministers Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and Abdul Haq Khan, Party’s Secretary and former Minister Ashraf Mir and party’s provincial youth president Nazir Ahmad Yattoo were also present.
