SRINAGAR, July 4: One militant was killed in the encounter in Pulwama this morning after over 30 hour long gun battle in which a total of three militants were killed and four security men injured.
The gunbattle began on Monday morning after the security forces launched a search operation following a specific tip-off about the presence of terrorists in Bamnoo area of Pulwama.
Two militants were killed yesterday and the body of third terrorist was found this morning as he continued to engage security forces by shifting from one house to another. At least 5 houses were damaged in the encounter as one of the militants Mohammad Akhter gave tough time to security forces as he shifted from one house to another.

At least 20 protests were injured at Bahmnoo, Keller, Tahab and Pulwama town during the clashes between stone throwing protesters and security forces.
12 Sector Commander of the Army Brigadier Harbir Singh told reporters here that the operation was launched yesterday morning after they received reports about presence of three militants of Hizbul Mujahideen militants hiding in the village.
He said that it is a major success for the security forces and a set back to Hizbul Mujahideen. He said that despite stone pelting aimed at facilitating the fleeing of militants from the cordon, police and CRPF did the effective mob control.
A police spokesman said that three militants were killed in a encounter with police and security forces in Pulwama district of South Kashmir since yesterday.
“Acting on a specific information about the presence of militants in area of Bamnoo village in Pulwama District, Pulwama police, Army and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched search operation. The hiding militants opened fire on the joint search party, triggering an encounter.
During the encounter, an unruly mob instigated by militants and the elements bent in disrupting the peace and order made various attempts to help the militants escape by coming close to the encounter site and also by pelting stones heavily on the joint operation parties. Since encounter during this process was going on three miscreants identified as Jahanjeer Ahmad Wagay, Altaf Hussan Gorsi and Showket Ahmad were injured in the cross firing. The injured were shifted to hospital where their condition was stable so far. While dispersing this mob of miscreants three miscreants were injured. They were shifted to Hospital whose condition is stable so far.
“The encounter ended with the killing of three militants identified as Jahangir Ahmad Khanday son of Mohammad Rustom resident of Keller, Shopian, Kifayat Ahmad Khanday son of Mohammad Ashan resident of Bamnoo, Rajpora and Mohammad Akhter resident of Reas”, the spokesman said.
Police said the slain militants were involved in various criminal activities in the district and also in other parts of South Kashmir. “Arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site”, police added.
