While employees especially industrial workers are expected to put in their best and deliver in whatever capacities they perform their assigned work and any dereliction is liable to be penalised, the employer must see to it that more and more welfare measures are undertaken for the overall benefit of the employees who otherwise are covered under various Labour Awards and Bi-Partite settlements . Towards that end , formation of J&K Employees Insurance Society under Employees Insurance Act 1948 has not only been mooted by the Administrative Council which met recently under the chairmanship of the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu but sanction too stands accorded to it. The move was going, besides aiming at promoting welfare of the employees, put them at par with employees and workers across the country.
This is a pro- employee / workers major decision under which health and insurance benefits to around 2.95 lakh insured persons under the scheme would accrue .For that, societies formed shall have to be registered to avail of facilities of being self reliant and exercise certain discretionary functions to run and staff them to make them truly functional . Now, funds seeking and increased flow too, from the Central Government by Employees Insurance Corporation would become easy and hassles free as treasury model shall get dispensed with . The number of persons under the scheme was going to touch nearly 6 lakh employees. Awareness among the employees and even employers was imperative in order to bring under its ambit, more and more work force to avail of the benefits.
