JAMMU, July 24: Puran Chand Bargotra, an eminent Dogri poet and renowned figure in literary circles of J&K, has been given the Best Book Award by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages.
The award money of Rs 1 lakh, which was announced by the Government in 2016, was given to Bargotra in an academy room by the authorities concerned on Saturday.
Even as it is customary on the part of academy to organise gatherings on such occasions, no function was held to honour him. It is strongly felt that functions are important to encourage awardees to do more literary work.
He got the award for his book – Shabd Shabd Sarmath. Bargotra, who has retired as a District Manager from the J&K Industries & Commerce Department, has composed the ‘Kundli Chhand’, a Hindi type of difficult form, which no other Dogri writer has attempted so far.
It is worthwhile to mention here that out of the seven poetry books written by him, three are in Kundli form. He has received accolades for this achievement.
