JAMMU, Oct 30: Foundation stone of a High Tech Vertical Farming Polyhouse Project for turmeric cultivation was laid today at Mishriwala Jammu.
The project shall be the first of its kind in the Union Territory of J&K and will eventually encourage the farmers of the area to take on modern innovative farming techniques for higher output at lower costs under product based cluster mechanism.
An impressive function in this regard was organised by Sahara Jagriti Manch & Gramin Vikas Sanastha. The project is a joint collaboration of the AS Agri & Aqua LLP & the local farmers of the area, financed by the Ellaquai Dehati Bank under Cooperative Farming Mechanism through 28 Joint Liability Groups constituted of 276 women of the area.
Sanction letters for an aggregate amount of Rs 1.38 crore were handed over on the spot. Technical guidance & support for the project has been provided by NABARD, SKUAST & the Department of Agriculture Jammu.
Besides others, the programme was attended by Dr J P Sharma, VC SKUAST; Arshadul Islam, Chairman Ellaquai Dehati Bank; Arvind Singh Reen, Joint Director Agriculture Jammu; Surinder Singh Dhiman, Director, A S Agri & Aqua LLP; Sanjeev Sharma, AGM NABARD; Ramesh Kumar Raina, LDM Jammu; Abdul Rashid Bhat, General Manager EDB; Kuldeep Koul, Area Manager EDB; Kuldip Singh Daliwal representing Kisan Gurukul & Sanjeev Verma of Sahara Jagriti Manch.
