Eliminating deprivation will be number one priority of Govt: Jaitley

NEW DELHI, Jul 5:

Expressing concern over the hard reality shown by the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC), Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today resolved to improve the situation, asserting that eliminating deprivation will be number one priority of the NDA Government.

“While great strides have been made to improve the economic lives of the poor, deprivation of one kind or another is still high,” Mr Jaitley acknowledged, in an update on his Facebook.

Stating that the way to eliminate deprivation is to achieve rapid economic growth of 8-10 per cent so that good jobs are created for all Indians quickly, he said that is why the Government is promoting investment.

The Finance Minister said out of the seven measures of deprivation counted by the SECC, the one that leads to the greatest amount of deprivation is being a landless household that derives a major part of its income from manual casual labour. (UNI)
