JAMMU, May 6: An elderly woman today allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze by pouring kerosene oil on her at Dori Dager area falling under the jurisdiction of police post Chowki Choura.
According to a police spokesperson, the woman identified as Chanchala Devi wife of Shatu Ram, a resident of Dori Dager, poued kerosene oil and set herself on fire following a quarrel with one of her sister-in-law, this afternoon.
In the mishap, she received about 60% burn injuries. She was rushed to Government Hospital Akhnoor from where she was immediately referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu. However, the woman succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The body of the deceased woman has been shifted to mortuary room of the hospital for postmortem and other legal formalities.
The concerned police has taken cognizance of the matter.
