JAMMU, Mar 16: Jammu and Kashmir EJAC president Wajahat Hussain Durrani today appealed the J&K administration to increase the honorarium for daily wagers on the lines of Ladakh administration.
Terming the decision of the Ladakh administration to approve the enhancement of minimum wages for daily wagers, need-based workers, and daily-rated workers across different departments as a landmark decision and significant step towards justice, Durrani emphasized that this issue has long been a humanitarian concern in J&K, with demands for the implementation of the Minimum Wage Act for these workers persisting for over two decades. He called upon the J&K administration to issue a similar order for daily wagers, who constitute the backbone of the current public service setup.
Also commending the Ladakh administration for enhancing the monthly honorarium for Rehbar e Khel (REK) teachers, Durrani underscored the importance of recognizing the invaluable contributions of highly qualified REK teachers. Durrani appealed the J&K administration to align the pay scale of daily wagers, need-based workers and Trained REK Physical Education Teachers in J&K with that of UT Ladakh. He emphasized the need for equitable treatment and fair compensation for highly qualified REK teachers and workers across both regions.
The EJAC J&K president appealed the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary Atal Dullo to consider and approve a similar monthly salary enhancement for REK teachers and daily wagers in J&K. This initiative will address the longstanding disparity in the remuneration of REK Physical Education teachers and ensure the financial security and dignity of daily wagers, in line with their counterparts in Ladakh.
