JAMMU, Aug 12: Like other parts of the country, Eid-ul-Adha was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu region today.
People, clad in colourful dresses, were seen attending congregational prayers at Eidgahs, mosques and other places in Jammu city amid tight security measures.
Administration of Auqaf had already issued schedule of Namaz timings at different Eidgahs and mosques.
The main congregation in Jammu was held at Eidgah, Residency road where thousands of Muslims drawn from different parts of city and outskirts offered the Eid Namaz in the morning.

Besides, some of the officials from police and administration, Hindu brethren on the occasion also exchanged Eid greetings with Muslim brethren and prayed for peace and tranquility in the border State.
Eid was celebrated at village Pangore in Marh block and members of Muslim community offered Eid Namaz at Jama Masjid Pangore. The former Minister, Ch. Sukhnandan visited the Jama Masjid area to greet the Muslim brethren on the occasion. He said such festivals bring message of peace and brotherhood.
A spirit of festivity marked the celebrations, people exchanged greetings and large gatherings were seen at mosques which were decorated magnificently and the markets were abuzz with activity.
Meanwhile, elaborate security and other necessary arrangements were made by civil and police administration for smooth celebration of Eid festival.
However, reports from other parts of the region reached here said the Eid prayers passed off peacefully and is being celebrated with religious fervor.
Shops of bakery, meat and sweets witnessed heavy rush of customers.
Meanwhile mobile connectivity in Rajouri and Poonch was also restored so that locals can exchange Eid greetings but mobile internet service remained snapped.
People exchanged special greetings and best wishes and prayed for peace and harmony in the State.
Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, In charge IGP, Mukesh Singh, DIG CRPF, Nitu, Deputy Commissioner, Sushma Chouhan, SSP Tajinder Singh and other officials were also present on the occasion and extended their warm greetings to the people on the eve of Eid.
Divisional Commissioner also extended his greetings to the people and prayed for peace, progress, prosperity and happiness in the State. In his message, the Divisional Commissioner expressed hope that this auspicious occasion would be the harbinger of peace and progress and would strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity.
Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across the district today.
The biggest congregations took place at Jamia Masjid Sharif Ramban and Gool, Eid Gah Batote and Eid Gah Banihal where large number of devotees performed Nimaz-e-Eid and prayed for peace, development and prosperity of society.
People exchanged wishes among themselves and participated in large number in the celebrations.
Elaborate security and other necessary arrangements were made by district and police administration for smooth celebration of Eid festival.
Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Nazim Zai Khan and SSP Ramban, Anita Sharma, ADC Dr. Basharat Hussain, ACR, Harbans Lal Sharma, CEO, AH Fani, Dy. SP, Asgar Malik, Dy. SP, Suresh Sharma, SHO, Vijay Kotwal along with officers of district administration distributed sweets among Nimazies besides extending greetings to the Muslim brethren.
On the occasion, DC also congratulated and greeted the people of Ramban on Eid and said that such occasions promote unity, communal harmony and brotherhood among people. He said that Eid-ul- Azha reminds us of our responsibility towards weak and needy people and inculcates the spirit of sharing happiness and joy with everyone.
Eid prayers were also offered at other mosques in town and outskirts including, mosques of Chanderkot, Chandrog, Maitra and Upper Ramban.
Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated today with religious fervor, gaiety across the district. The Muslim brethren thronged local mosques and performed Nimaz-e-Eid and prayed for peace, development and prosperity of the district and the State.
Elaborate necessary arrangements including security and other arrangements were made by the district and police administration for smooth celebrations of Eid festival.
Deputy Commissioner, Angrez Singh Rana, SSP, Dr. Harmeet Singh Mehta, ADC, Pawan Parihar, Addl.SP, Nasir Ahmed, Tehsildar, Parmod Kumar, Officers from Army, CRPF, RAF were also present on the occasion and exchanged Eid greetings with Muslim brethren and prayed for peace, tranquillity, integrity, communal harmony and brotherhood in the district and the State.
Eid was also celebrated with religious and fervor in Kathua district. Hundreds of Muslims offered Eid prayers at Eidgah Kathua and they were greeted by their Hindu and Sikh brethren. DDC Kathua, Dr Raghav Langer and SSP Kathua Sridhar Patil were among others who were present on the occasion and greeted the people.
Eid was also celebrated with full religious enthusiasm in Doda, Bhadarwah, Banihal, Reasi, Gool, Arnas ,Rajouri, Kalakote, Poonch , Mendhar and Samba towns today.
