JAMMU, Aug 5: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla today said that the Government has initiated several measures to develop every part of the State on modern lines by providing improved basic amenities like safe drinking water, electricity, healthcare, education, road connectivity besides better lanes and drains to the people.
The Minister while addressing a gathering at Gandhi Nagar said that several prestigious development projects have been completed and many others are in pipeline for improving the developmental profile of the State. He called upon the people to personally monitor the quality of ongoing development projects in their respective areas and added that the Government has resolved to create durable assets in every nook and corner of the State.
Highlighting the development projects taken up in his constituency, Mr. Bhalla said that for providing better accommodation to the Rajiv Nagar slum dwellers, work on 4-storey flats comprising 352 units was under progress at Sunjwan. He said being developed over 52 kanal land the project would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 14.25 crore under JNNURM.
He said that with the completion of the flats, the slum dwellers would be accommodated there with all basic amenities. He said that several other welfare schemes have also been launched to raise socio economic condition of the homeless.
Listing the measures taken by the Government in his home constituency, the Minister said that the Government earmarked Rs. 71 crore for expansion of Jammu airport, Rs. 13 crore for alternate road from Military Hospital to Warehouse via Belicharana, Rs. 110 crore artificial lake in Nikki Tawi, Rs. 48 crore for 100-beded hospital in Rajiv Gandhi hospital, Rs. 15 crore teacher bhawan and air conditioned auditorium, Rs. 100-crore 7-storey Maternity hospital, Rs. 95.70 crore 8-lane flyover from Bikram Chowk to Convent School in first phase, Rs. 4.78 crore power station at Shastri Nagar and Rs. 3.5 crore parking slot near cremation ground Shastri Nagar besides other projects like bridges, tube wells and up-gradation of Landoi Choi and Barsati nallahs.
Later, at Nanak Nagar, Mr. Bhalla kick started construction work of lanes and drains, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 3.5 lakh.
At Sanjay Nagar Gurudwara, the Minister also attended a function organized by Punjabi Lekhak Sabha in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages to felicitate Desh Raj Danish and Mr Amar Singh Kooka, Punjabi poets of the State.
