JAMMU, Aug 5: While over a dozen houses were reported to have collapsed due to rains in Rajouri, Reasi, Ramban, Udhampur and hilly areas of Kathua, two women were killed in house collapse and fall after slipping on a narrow hilly track during rain last evening in Gool and Mahore areas.
Reports from Ramban said that the house of one Abdul Rafiq at Jamslan collapsed due to heavy rain last evening and his wife Shama Begum was buried alive. Other members of the family had a miraculous escape.
In another incident, one Zulfa Begum, wife of Ghulam Mohd, resident of village Laar Badar in Mahore slipped from a hill top during rain. She was returning from the nearby jungle with green fodder for cattle. She fell into 200 feet deep gorge and got killed on the spot.
Meanwhile, two persons, namely Rakesh Kumar and Ravi Kumar were injured after a portion of their house collapsed in Shateni area near Udhampur last night. Both were hospitalized. At least a dozem more houses are said to have collapsed in Arnas and Mahore area of Reasi.
A report from Rajouri said that about 7-8 houses were collapsed in Taryath area of Kalakote due to rains over night. However, no loss of human life was reported. Another report from Kathua said that two houses collapsed in Billawar area during last night but no loss of life was reported.
Meanwhile, the dead body of a youth was recovered from the bank of river Chenab near Reasi today. The unidentified villager is believed to have been washed away during flash flood in river or some nallah. The body was shifted to the morgue of Reasi hospital. The PCR Reasi informed all the police stations in the region.
