JAMMU, Mar 4: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations held strong protest against NC MLA Bashir Ahmad Veeri for the introduction of the Reservation Amendment Bill 2025, which they claim is anti-SC/ST/OBC.
They claimed that this bill allocated 16% reservation to 70% population comprises of 8% SCs, 10% STs-1, and 62 % OBC and 84% to general category which is totally unfair and not acceptable. The Confederation burned Veeri’s effigy and the Reservation Bill, demanding that NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah must expel Veeri from the party.
According to RK Kalsotra, State president of the Confederation, the Bill aims to weaken the fundamental rights of SC/ST/OBC communities. He warned that weakening existing reservation policies would lead to widespread protests.
The main demands include, increase in reservation quota: SC reservation in recruitment and promotion should be increased from 8% to 10%, ST-1 reservation from 10% to 12%, and OBC reservation in J&K be ensured at 27% as per Mandal Commission; implement restoration of reservation in promotions for SC/ST/OBC employees without delay; age relaxation of five years for SC/ST/OBC candidates instead of three year and filling up of backlog vacancies of SC/ST/OBC candidates in employment; hold fair caste census and e appoint Scheduled Caste member in the J&K PSC.
