ECI notice to Rahul Gandhi against Nyay posters in Amethi without permission

NEW DELHI: Election Commission on Friday issued notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi over banners erected in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi constituency, the stronghold of Nehru-Gandhi family, without the permission of owner of the building.
The poll body has asked the Congress chief to submit his reply within 24 hours, and that it would take necessary action if his reply is not satisfactory.
Flying squad of the Commission on Wednesday checked banners put up in various places in Amethi and sought relevant papers from Congress workers.
However, according to poll body officials, the grand old party failed to submit papers and the Commission decided to issue notice.
The Commission sources also said that the Congress did not take permission from local poll officers before putting up the banners, which have Mr Gandhi’s picture with the slogan ‘Ab hoga Nyay’, one of the main election promises of the party.
In this poll, the Congress president, a sitting MP from Amethi, is also contesting in a second seat from Kerala’s Wayanad.
