ECI deputes Shahid to Georgia

JAMMU, June 7: Election Commission of India has deputed J&K cadre IAS officer Shahid Iqbal as a part of three member team to Georgia for preparations to conduct Presidential election scheduled to be held in October this year.
Shahid Iqbal, who is presently Additional Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat will visit Georgia from June 20, 2016 in the first instance followed by assistance during conduct of Presidential elections.
The team deputed by Election Commission of India will assist the Georgia Administration at Capital Tbilisi for framing electoral enrolment and conduct of election process. Shahid was earlier deputed along with 3 other officers from country to Kingdom of Lesotho in South Africa for assisting the country in electoral process.
He has served as District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) of Reasi, Kathua and Udhampur before being appointed as Additional Secretary in Office of Chief Minister recently.
He is also recipient of the National Award for record performance in Lok Sabha Election 2014 and State Assembly Election 2014 and received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for the year 2014-15. He was also a part of 16-member Indian delegation to Singapore which accompanied Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 37th Singapore seminar and bilateral programme.
