JAMMU, Sept 15: Making a strong pitch for holistic development with a human face, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh exhorted upon the engineers and scientists to join hands for a higher cause that enables the welfare of all.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of 3rd National Conference and Exhibition on “Emerging and innovative trends in Engineering Technology” (NCEEITET-2015) organized by Government College of Engineering and Technology here today.
IGP Jammu Danish Rana, S.K. Sharma, Executive Director Power Grid PGCIL M.D. Chenab valley Power Projects B.R. Saraf were also present on the occasion.
Deputy Chief Minister stressed that Indians are the inheritors of a prosperous legacy of science and technology since ancient times and the contributions of Indian civilization to human knowledge and scientific arena is enormous and commendable. He asked the students to restore the pride in this supreme legacy and strive towards excellence and innovation for the welfare of the mankind.
He maintained that one of the enormous challenges before mankind is to optimally use the available resources which will suffice the long term needs of sustainable development. He stressed on pursuing the Gandhian philosophy of trusteeship for ensuring equitable division of resources.
He expressed hope that conference will help in productive exchange of new scientific knowledge and exchange of ideas, adding that the engineers have a pivotal role in shaping the future of the nation and achieving the futuristic developmental needs.
Dr Singh maintained that science and technology is an important tool to remove national barriers and making people work in unison to address the challenges.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Social Welfare, Forest, Environment and Ecology Bali Bhagat said that NCEEITET will provide a conducive environment for holding deliberations on new scientific innovations.
He said that the aim should be to achieve holistic development with maximum social participation. He assured that he will ensure better amenities for the people, adding that the approach road to GCET will be got repaired immediately.
Principal of GCET Dr Sameru Sharma in her welcome address said that the conference is being held to showcase the latest developments in the present era of scientific and engineering research.
In the inaugural session lectures were delivered by S.K. Sharma, Executive Director Power Grid PGCIL, Prof. M. S. Dasgupta Mechanical Deptt &Chief Placement unit BITS Pilani and Dr T. S. Raina, former Prof and Head PG Deptt of Transfusion Medicine GMC Jammu.
