DyCM inaugurates traffic lights in Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 4: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today inaugurated state of the art traffic signal lights at Bikram Chowk.
Minister for Industries & Commerce S.S. Slathia, Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla, Minister for Medical Education & Sports R.S. Chib, Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development & Home Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA, Jammu (West) Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta and MLA Jammu (East) Ashok Khajuria were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tara Chand said the traffic light project has been undertaken by the JMC at a cost of Rs 250 lakh and out of the total of 30 lights installed, in the first instance 10 have been commissioned and rest would be dedicated to the city in a phased manner.
“In order to regulate traffic and ease the commuters from frequent traffic jams the Government has initiated the project of installing traffic lights in both the capital cities” he added.
Reiterating resolve of the Government to develop capital cities on most modern lines, Mr. Tara Chand said ambitious development projects have been initiated to address the urban requirements of city inhabitants.
Flyover project from Bikram Chowk, ambitious project of augmenting water supply by utilising Chenab water, creation of facilities under BSUP, rehabilitation of slum dwellers, construction of modern abattoir and modernising sewerage system are among the projects undertaken to develop the city on pattern of metros, he added.
He said with the active support of the Union Government mega infrastructure projects have been launched in the State for all round development of all the three regions, adding that in Housing & Urban Development sector under JNNURM ambitious projects have been initiated to upgrade urban infrastructure in the State and to address the urban requirements of all strata of population.
Among others the function was attended by, Principal Secretary, H&UDD Suresh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Mr. Pradeep Gupta, IG, Jammu Dilbagh Singh, DC, Jammu Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation K.L Khajuria, VC, JDA Sarita Chouhan, DIG Traffic, Heads of Departments, Representatives of Transport Union Anil Chopra, Inderjeet Sharma, Prominent citizens, members of civil society, traders and leaders of all political parties.
