Durga Ashtami celebrated with religious fervor, gaiety

JAMMU, Apr 5: Durga Ashtami was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety in Kashmir today. In this connection a large number of devotees thronged the ancient Durga Nag Temple near Dalgate, Srinagar to pay obeisance to Goddess Durga.
On this occasion annual Maha Yagya was also solemnized in the temple premises which was organised by Durga Nag Trust headed by Vijay Bakaya, former Chief Secretary. The hawan started yesterday evening with Kalash Pooja and completed with Purannahuti this afternoon which was followed by serving of Prashad to devotees. The hawan was performed under the supervision of Dr R L Dhar general secretary of the Trust along with senior trustee, Kuldeep Raina and advisor DNT, M K Gulabi. The Bhajan and Kirtan was also held in temple premises by the devotees.
Talking to reporters they said the Durga Ashtami as the birthday of Goddess Durga is celebrated every year in the temple premises with religious fervor and gaiety and devotees from different parts of Srinagar and its outskirts visit this temple to pay obeisance to Goddess.
The Annual Hawan ceremony of Durga Ashtami (part of Navreh Samaroh) was celebrated with full religious ethos today by Kashmiri Pandit Sabha, Ambphalla, Jammu. The Hawan started on 4th April 2025 and culminated on 5th April 2025 with Puran Ahuti.On the occasion entire executive body led by its President K. K. Khosa was present. Besides, a large number of devotees, including Life Member of Sabha, the prominent members of the community who graced the occasion were Prof. O. N. Koul, A. K. Braroo, Rajinder Raina, Susheel Aima, Susheel Koul, Kewal Sher and many others. After Puran Ahuti, the devotees were served with Prasad.
During Hawan continuous Bhajan and Kirtan were sung by ladies and all other devotees.
