Drugs smuggling bid foiled, 51 kgs poppy straw seized

JAMMU, May 25: Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ foiled drugs smuggling bid with the seizure of 51 kilograms of poppy straw from a truck.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Gangyal Police Station laid a naka at Greater Kailash and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK02G-5125, which was coming from Narwal towards Kunjwani Chowk for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased the vehicle.
As the driver came to know that cops are chasing him, he abandoned the vehicle on the road side and escaped from the spot by taking benefits of the darkness.
During checking, police recovered 51 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and seized it.
The accused driver was about to smuggle the consignment to Punjab, but cops foiled his attempt and seized the poppy straw.
A case under FIR Number 46/18 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Gangyal and hunt has been launched to nab the accused.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali and assisted by Incharge Greater Kailash Police Post SI Vicky Thapa made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
