Drugs & Food Control Organization team conducts surprise inspections

JAMMU, May 19: In order to ensure smooth and effective implementation of the FSS Act 2006, a team of the Food Safety Officers under the supervision of Sanjeev Kumar, Asstt Controller Food, (JMC), carried out simultaneous inspections of the M/s Amway India Enterprises Pvt Ltd at KC Plaza Commercial Complex, Jammu, M/s Sarbatt Marketing, 72/3 Model Town Gangyal and KC Public School and KC International School at Paloura.
During the drive, it was observed that M/s Amway India Enterprises Pvt Ltd has undertaken recall of the Food items under the FSS Act 2006 on the directions of the Apex authority. However, Ajay Tickoo, Manager Operation, could not satisfy the inspection team about the mechanism of recall and details of recovery thereof. The company has been instructed to produce the relevant documentary evidence to suggest that a serious effort was made to effect product recall. A copy of SOP for product recall was also sought from the concerned firm. Sale of product to non registered/ Licensed FBO was stopped on spot. Further the firm has been instructed to produce the record of Kids Chewing concentrate Fruit and Vegetable to ascertain & verify that the sale of the said product has been permitted by the competent authority. A sample of Olive oil has also been lifted and sent to the laboratory for testing and analysis.
The operation of M/s Sarbatt Marketing, 72/3 Model Town Gangyal, dealing with tea product was stopped as the same was found being carried out without any Authority. Two samples of tea have also been lifted and sent to the laboratory for testing and analysis.
The team also inspected the canteen of the above said schools and observed that the same is being carried out without any authority. The authorized person concerned was instructed to complete the formalities for obtaining license and also provide necessary infrastructure to carry out the operation as per FSS Act 2006.
Meanwhile the Licensing Authority , (Wholesale) Jammu Division, Lotika Khajuria, has cancelled the wholesale license of M/s Farooq Medical Agencies , Reasi as the said firm had violated Section 63 of the Drug & cosmetics Act 1940 & rules 1945.
Show cause notices have also been served and issued to two outlets dealing with Retail trade of medicine namely M/s Angotra Medical Hall, Vijaypur and M/s Narinder Medicate opposite accidental Hospital, Vijaypur for carrying out the sale of the medicines in absence of the approved qualified person as also non maintenance of the records of the habit forming drugs.
