JAMMU, Apr 13: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), J&K’s Jammu unit, today claimed to have arrested an alleged drug smuggler from near IIM Jammu and recovered 18 kilograms of poppy straw from his possession.
An ANTF official said that acting on specific intelligence, a naka was laid on the National Highway-44 near IIM Jammu.
During naka checking, he said, an Etios car (JK02AU-9945) was intercepted and on search of the vehicle, 18 kilograms of contraband concealed in the dicky was recovered.
Accordingly, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Shokat Ali of Kanger in Bhalwal area of Jammu district was arrested on the spot, the ANTF official said.
Quoting preliminary investigation, he said the accused had procured the contraband from the Kashmir Valley and was transporting it to Jammu to sell it among the local youth for illegal gains.
According to the ANTF official, a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at Police Station ANTF Jammu and further investigation has been set into motion to trace other members of the network and to establish the backward and forward linkages.
The arrest and seizure was made by the ANTF Jammu team under the supervision of SSP ANTF Jammu, Anwar ul Haq, and DySP ANTF Jammu, Ravinder Singh.
