Drug peddlers held with 1 kg heroin, codeine

Srinagar, Apr 17: Police today said to have arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara and Anantnag while recovering 1 kilogram of heroin and 15 bottles of codeine phosphate from their possession.
In Handwara, police said, a police party of Police Station Handwara at a checkpoint established in their jurisdiction and intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK09/0504 with two persons on board.
“They have been identified as Javid Ahmad khan son of Dulat Mohammad khan resident of Gund Chubutra and Mohd Yousuf Bhat son of Abdul Aziz resident of Pingroo. During checking, officers were able to recover 1-kilogram heroin from the vehicle. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” police said.
Accordingly, as per police, a case FIR No. 93/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation into the matter has been initiated.
In Anantnag, police said, on specific information, In-charge Police Post Janglat Mandi along with his team at a checkpoint established at Brakpora Anantnag intercepted one person identified as Rayees Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Rasool Ganie resident of Brakpora.
“On checking, 15 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 95 /2021 under relevant sections of the law stands registered in Police Station Anantnag and investigation was initiated.
