SOPORE, May 9: Sopore Police have arrested a major drug peddler who was operating under the guise of a pharmaceutical distributor, in a continuing effort to curb the drug menace in the region.
Police said the accused, Manzoor Ahmad Watta, son of Ghulam Nabi Watta and a resident of Adipora Sopore, was running N Traders Pharmaceutical Distributors in New Colony, Sopore. Acting on credible inputs, Police Station Sopore registered an FIR (No. 67/2025) under sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act.
A raid was conducted at the agency’s premises in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and Drug Inspector. During the search, 115 bottles of banned drug Codeine Phosphate were recovered. The accused had reportedly been removing the original labels and replacing them with fake ones marked ‘CUT COLD D’ before illegally distributing the substance. Police also seized a laptop, printer and counterfeit packaging materials used in the operation.
Sopore Police emphasized their commitment to tackling drug abuse and warned all pharmaceutical outlets against illegal practices. “We are monitoring all medical distributors closely. Anyone found violating the law will face strict action,” a police spokesperson said. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
