SRINAGAR, Apr 22: Police today said a drug peddler from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and lodged at Kathua Jail while three other peddlers have been arrested in Awantipora area of Pulwama district.
A police spokesman said a notorious drug peddler was lodged in District Jail Kathua after booking him under PSA today. “He was involved in spreading drug addiction in District Kulgam,” the spokesman said.
He said the peddler, Reyaz Ahmad Wani, who was involved in case under FIR number 174/2014 under section 8/15 NDPS Act of Police Station Kulgam and FIR number 141/2015 under section 8/21 NDPS Act of Police Station Qazigund, was arrested on July 14, 2015.
“A huge quantity of poppy straw was recovered from him. He was booked under PSA and lodged in District Jail Kathua today,” the spokesman said, adding that three other persons have been booked under PSA in drug peddling during past one month in the Kulgam district. Meanwhile, acting on a tip off, police during naka checking intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK13C-6168 at Awantipora in Pulwama district, the spokesman said.
“On checking, 11.5 grams of brown sugar was recovered from the vehicle. Three persons Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, Ashiq Hussain Dar and Mohammad Shafi Sheikh who were boarding the vehicle were arrested,” the spokesman said, adding that a case under FIR number 49/2016 under section 8/21-29 NDPS Act has been registered against them and investigation has been taken up.
