Drug peddler arrested with poppy straw

JAMMU, Apr 25: Police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a drug peddler along with five kilograms poppy straw from Raipur Satwari area, here today.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Chatha police post laid a naka at Raipur Satwari near Bhatha and intercepted a pedestrian, who was moving under suspicious circumstances.
During checking, police recovered 5 kilograms poppy straw from the bag being carried by the pedestrian and arrested him.
The accused has been identified as Parveen Kumar alias Shanga, son of Chur Singh, a resident of Raipur Satwari.
A case under FIR Number 98/17 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Satwari police station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment.
The arrest was made by police team led by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and assisted by Incharge Chatha police post SI Sandeep Charak and SI Arun Slathia under the supervision of SP South Sandeeep Choudhary.
