Drug peddler arrested with 35 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, Feb 3: Gangyal Police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a drug peddler and recovered 35 kilograms of poppy straw from his possession.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Gangyal Police Station laid a naka at Greater Kailash and signaled an auto bearing registration number JK02AW-7724, which was on its way from Narwal towards Samba to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle anf escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted the vehicle after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 35 kilograms of poppy straw from the possession of a person and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Dharmider Kumar, son of Dharam Chand of Manwal, district Jammu.
On questioning, the accused disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling drugs among the youth and ruining the society in and around Jammu city. With his arrest, police saved the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 9/18 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Gangyal and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali and Incharge Greater Kailash Police Post SI Vicky Thappa made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
