Srinagar, Jan 4: Police today arrested a drug peddler and recovered a large quantity of poppy straw from his possession in Budgam district.
A police spokesman said that they apprehended a drug peddler during a routine checking at Charwari-Dardpora area of Budgam district falling under the jurisdiction of police station Char-i-Sharief.
“The accused was apprehended when policemen during a routine checking intercepted a load carrier bearing registration number JK13C-1094 and recovered 48 kilograms of poppy straw from his possession,” he said
The drug peddler has been identified as Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Chewa Khurd area of Pulwama.
A case under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Char-i-Sharief and investigation was taken up.
