Drug peddler arrested, 100 kgs of Bhukki seized

SAMBA, Oct 2: In a major breakthrough in its drive against drugs, District Police Samba has arrested a narcotics smuggler and recovered  consignment of about 100 kgs of Poppy Straw (Bhukki) at naka NHW Rakh Barotian  in the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Vijaypur.
A Police party of PS Vijaypur headed by SHO PS Vijaypur, Inspector, Om Parkash under the supervision of SDPO Vijaypur, Lov Karan Taneja while performing vehicle checking duty at naka Rakh Barotian, NHW  signalled a truck which was coming from the Valley and moving towards Punjab to stop.
On questioning by Naka party, the driver gave an unsatisfactory reply to which the Police team smelled something unwarranted being transported in the vehicle. As the police proceeded for vehicle checking, the truck driver tried to run away leaving behind the vehicle. The police chased him and apprehended the driver who disclosed his identity as Abdul Rashid, son of Ghulam Mohidin Lone of Draggar, near Main Road Kachwari Budgam.
During checking of the vehicle, poppy straw weighing a total of 100 kgs was recovered which was stashed tactically in eight apple boxes to avoid being noticed during search.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 165/2021 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Vijaypur and further investigation started.
