DRSC reviews working of Home Deptt

JAMMU, Feb 6: The Departmental Related Standing Committee (DRSC) of Legislative Council on Home Department met here today under the chairmanship of Sheikh Ghulam Rasool.
The Committee reviewed the working of the Home Department from all aspects with the senior officers of security, crime and traffic wings present in the meeting.
The Chairman of the Committee highlighted the role of the police in maintaining law and order and stressed upon the senior functionaries to be more people friendly while performing their duty. He called upon the Police Department to work in close coordination with the civil administration for better and effective policing.
The members of the Committee had a detailed discussion on various issues and gave their valuable suggestions with regard to the implementation of rehabilitation policy for surrendered militants, youth migrated to PoK and speedy disposal of cases pending at different levels.
The Committee stressed upon the department to strengthen the Women Police Cells and strengthening of the criminal law in the light of the national policy, better management of traffic and further improvement in regulation in hilly areas of the State.
The Committee noted with alarm and concern the death of over 5000 and injuries to 27000 persons in road accidents during last three and half years and called for effective measures for containing such mishaps in the future.
The Committee noted that despite recovery of Rs 8 crore as fine for road safety violations during this period, the accidents continue to take place, particularly on Chenab valley routes.
The Committee suggested for setting up of a High Level Inter Department Coordination Committee to sort out the issues regarding licence procedure, validation of route permit and road safety measures etc.
The Legislators, Haji Ali Mohammad Bhat, Subash Chander Gupta, Syed Asgar Ali and Sham Lal Bhagat, besides Secretary Legislative Council, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Deputy Secretary Mohd Maqbool Bhat, officers and official of the Council Secretariat attended the meeting
ADGP, Security Ram Lubhaya, IGP, CID Srinwas, IGP, Traffic Muneer Khan, DGP, Fire Services G. A. Bhat and other senior officers of Home Department were also present in the meeting.
