SRINAGAR, Dec 24: Scores of cab drivers protested today against the traffic police department for seizing their vehicles.
The drivers protested at Press Enclave here and raised slogans in support of their demands. According to the drivers, hundreds of vehicles transporting passengers from various parts of north Kashmir into the city are being seized unnecessarily by the Traffic Police Department. “The police seize vehicles at different places like Shaltang, Tangpora, and JVC without any reason,” a driver said.
They said that the vehicles were seized illegally because no paperwork had been completed. “They don’t offer us any seizure documents or challans. When we go to the court to get our vehicle released, they ask for seizure documents”, another driver said.
They said that their vehicles had been taken despite the fact that they had permission to drive on the roads, and that they were being harassed. “If they want to change our routes why dont they announce it,” drivers asked.
