Driver booked for assaulting cop during traffic duty

SRINAGAR, June 5: Police today registered a case against a driver for allegedly assaulting an on-duty policeman after being asked to remove his vehicle that was causing a traffic obstruction at Bus Stand Crossing in Anantnag in south Kashmir.
A Police spokesperson said that a police team was regulating traffic at Bus Stand Crossing when a vehicle bearing registration number JK03Q-4040 was found parked on the roadside, leading to congestion and inconvenience to commuters.
When police personnel asked the driver to remove the vehicle to ensure smooth traffic flow, the driver allegedly became aggressive and assaulted the policemen on duty, the spokesperson said.
Following the incident, FIR No. 172/2026 was registered at Police Station Anantnag under relevant provisions of law and an investigation has been taken up, “Obstruction of public roads and assault on public servants performing their lawful duties are serious offences and will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law,” the spokesperson said.
