JAMMU, July 2: New Wing of Crime Branch–Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) arrested driver and his associate with around 12 quintals poppy straw near Narwal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
As per police sources, on specific information regarding smuggling of contraband from Kashmir to Jammu, the sleuths of ANTF led by Inspector Parvez Sajjad and Inspector Sunil Jasrotia under the supervision of DySP Arun Jamwal and SP Vinay Sharma laid a naka near Narwal on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK18-4311.
During checking, police team recovered around 1200 kilograms of poppy straw concealed under the empty plastic crates and arrested the driver along with his associate.
The arrested persons were identified as Mohd Afzal Khan, son of Abdul Gani Khan of Handoora, Tral District Pulwama and Momin, son of Gulam Hassan Chopan of Medoora, Tral, District Pulwama.
FIR under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered and ANTF is investigating further details including forward and backward linkages of this gang.
It is pertinent to mention here that UT Government has recently ordered the creation of Anti Narcotic Task Force, a new wing of Crime Branch, to deal with rising problem of drugs and narcotics.
