Driver arrested with poppy straw

JAMMU, Jan 21: Gujjar Nagar police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a driver along with 12 kilograms poppy straw.
As per police sources, acting over a tip-off, a team from Gujjar Nagar police post laid a naka and intercepted a Tavera car bearing registration number JK03D-2911.
During checking, police recovered 12 kilograms poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Abid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Gani Sheikh of District Anantnag.
The accused had brought the consignment from Kashmir and was about to deliver it to his associates in Jammu, but active cops of Gujjar Nagar police post foiled his bid and arrested him.
A case under FIR Number 7/17 under Section Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Peer Mitha police station and investigation started.
Police team led by Incharge Gujjar Nagar police post SI Shariq Bhat made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Peer Mitha police station Inspector Javaid Malik, SDPO City Vivek Shekhar and SP City Dr Vinod Kumar.
