NAGROTA Aug 22: Reiterating his vision of transforing Nagrota as Nawan Jammu, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Friday said this is achievable provided people of the area demonstrate their grit and determination.
“I have taken upon myself the challenge of rechristening the identity of Nagrota Assembly Constituency and developing it as a satellite township in the outskirts of the Jammu city”, Mr Rana said amid applause by the people during his public meetings at various places in the constituency.
He said if Jammu could expand beyond Bari Brahmna, there is no reason why Nagrota can’t become a most modern township keeping in view its topographical bliss, scenic splendour, huge land mass, rivulets and open spaces. “The area has vast potential in view of holy township of Katra in the immediate periphery and a prestigious university and upcoming cancer institute of the international standard miles away”, he said and spelled out broad contours of his vision how the new city will shape up in years to come. He cited the examples of Navi Mumbai or Vashi in the Maharashtra heartland and Greater Noida in the outskirts of Capital city of Delhi and said Nagrota too has scope to grow. “In fact the area offers much more to explore, be it raising educational infrastructure, carving of toruism destinations or creating commercial jaunts”, he said and added that right perception can help in evolving a foolproof mechanism to draw a developmental strategy.
“Give me six years and I will return back with my dream about Nagrota getting translated into reality”, Mr Rana, who is National Conference candidate from the Constituency for upcoming Legislative Assembly elections, said while assuring that as a foot soldier of the party he will not desist from offering any sacrifice in service of the people. He said the people are fed up with sloganeering and want action on ground than hollow words. The development of the past six years across the State under the stewardship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has convinced the people about policies of National Conference which focuses on delivering. He said the people are sagacious enough to draw a line between the achievements registered on ground and hollow slogans raised by those whose aim is just to get glued to power, even if it means exploiting the public sentiment.
The Provincial President said National Conference will plunge into the elections on development plank and milestones achieved in terms of raising developmental infrastructure, restoring peace, generating employability and dispensing governance against numerous odds during the past nearly six years. “Though much has been done, yet much more is required to be achieved given the overall scenario of the state, which has reeled under disturbed conditions for the past about two and half decades”, he said and exhorted the people to lend their helping hand in realising this cherished agenda.
