JAMMU, June 15: A comprehensive book in Dogri on the Dogri literature of 20th century, entitled ‘Beehmi Sadi Da Dogri Da Gadya Sahitya: Ik Jayzaa’ written by noted scholar of Dogri Dr Vijay Seth, was released today.
The book, based on extensive research work, incorporates five chapters chronologically covering the development of essays, literary sketches, travelogue, memoirs, biographic and autobiographical literature in Dogri with decadal account. While elaborating basic elements of various forms of Dogri prose, the author has not only traced the development of Dogri prose but also incorporated critical analysis of each form of Dogri prose taken up in the book.
During the book release function, organized by the Dogri Sanstha, an introductory review of this 290-page Dogri book, was presented by Dr Veena Gupta, former Head of Dogri Department, Jammu University. She underscored the worth of the book as it unfolds the literary history as well as literary criticism of Dogri prose of last century.
Dr Rattan Basotra also presented a paper on the book and elaborated the significance of the contribution of Dr Seth.
Dr Vijay gave an account of his research work and shared his experiences in accomplishing this monumental work with the audience.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr Lalit Mangotra, Convener Advisory Board (Dogri) Sahitya Akademi, said that Dr Vijay Seth had made a colossal contribution to Dogri by bringing together the literary history of Prose of twentieth century in book form that would prove very advantageous to the research scholars of tomorrow.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Dogri Sanstha president Chhatrapal informed that Dr Vijay Seth is a lecturer in Geology by profession and had been publishing research based articles on literary criticism in various magazines and periodicals but his first book is a solid contribution to the modern Dogri literature.
