Dr Shazad demands Municipality for Mendhar

Excelsior Correspondent
POONCH,  Feb 25:  Highlight  the poor sanitation condition and lack of basic public utilities in Mendhar town, Dr Shazad Malik, Vice Chancellor of Sai Nath University has put forth the demand of establishing a full fledged Municipality  there  at  sub-divisional headquarter Mendhar which consists of three tehsils Balakote, Mankote and Mendhar itself.
In his appeal to the Chief Minister and  Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, the VC, a son of the soil  has asked for constitution of a Local Self Government body for Mendhar town to cater to the  basic needs like proper sanitation, planned  development of the town,  appointment of Safai Karamcharis, management of the Bus Stand,  proper licensing of  ‘Rehris’  and food/ vegetable  vendors, construction of lanes, drains,  public toilets and wash rooms.
The VC argued that thousands of people visit the town everyday including students, senior citizens and women and in the absence of public utilities they face lot of inconvenience. He further said that   when the whole country is celebrating  the program of sanitation,  basic hygiene and Government of India providing millions of rupees to Municipalities under ‘Swachh Bharat Mission, it is unfortunate that no local leader of the area ever raised the demand of establishing Municipality for this town and deprived it’s people of even basic amenities.
Seeking parity with other countrymen for having  sanitation  facilities, he  said  under Swachh Bharat Mission, they  also deserve ‘Swachh Mendhar’. Dr Shazad pointed that during  rainy season,  in the absence of proper cleanliness, the drains get choked and water logging is witnessed every where. Even water enters the shops and houses,   causing damage to the public property.  It also give rise to the  water-borne diseases. At present  Rural Development Department is  looking after the cleanliness of Mendhar town but it has  miserably failed to do so despite fetching huge funds by way of leasing ‘Lorry Adda’ through auction every year.
