JAMMU, Feb 7: Snake bite poisoning a major cause of fixed mortality during summer and monsoon season occurring in Indian sub-continent in farmers, foresters, fishermen and trekkers can be easily preventable with certain measures like use of stockings and gloves upto knees and elbows respectively or simply wrapping with jute and use of a lathi and torch while going out at night, making a ditch around the jhugghis and immobility of both the bitten part and the patient.
This was stated by Dr Viney Rampal during 71st Annual Conference of Association of Physicians of India (APICON-2016), which was held at Hyderabad recently.
Dr Rampal was called to deliver a guest lecture on recent advances in the management of snake bite poisoning.
He stressed that every year thousands of healthy adults fall prey to fatal snake bites, which is easily preventable by use of proper measures and protective gear during the vulnerable season.
He emphasized for judicious use of polyvalent Anti Venin Serum (AVS) as it is only antidote for snake bite poisoning be it Haemorrhagic/Cardiotoxic or Neurotoxic.
Dr Rampal also emphasized on an urgent need for early detection of Diabetes Mellitus, which is another enigma for medical profession.
