BILLAWAR, Apr 23 : Senior Congress leader and former Minister Manohar Lal Sharma today raised serious civic concerns and launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government, accusing it of Governance failures and spreading false narratives.
Sharma was on an extensive tour of Billawar and Ramkote.
During his visit to the villages including Thanthu, Barota, Ghar, Tarkar and SC Mohalla Kough, Dr Sharma interacted with locals and reviewed long-pending grievances.
A major issue highlighted during the visit was the ongoing drinking water crisis in Moda Ghar of village Kough.
He said residents have been facing acute water shortages for over a year.
“Despite repeated appeals, authorities have failed to restore regular supply. Women and elderly people are forced to walk long distances daily to fetch water, which is unacceptable,” he said, terming the situation a reflection of poor service delivery and administrative apathy.
Sharma also drew attention to the incomplete link road from Thakur Dwara to Ghar village, stating that it continues to hamper mobility, healthcare access and economic activities.
He urged authorities to expedite infrastructure projects on priority.
Expressing concern over recent heavy rains and flash floods, Sharma criticized delays in compensation to affected families.
“Timely relief is a responsibility, not a favour. The delay is worsening the suffering of already distressed households,” he remarked.
Targeting the BJP, Dr Sharma termed its claims of women’s reservation and empowerment as a “false narrative.”
He said that while the Government promotes women-centric policies, ground realities in Jammu and Kashmir tell a different story.
“Women in rural areas are still struggling for basic amenities like water, healthcare and livelihood. If empowerment is real, why do these hardships persist?” he questioned, adding that true empowerment requires sustained policy implementation and improved living conditions.
Reaffirming his commitment to public welfare, Sharma assured residents that their concerns would be raised at appropriate forums.
