UDHAMPUR, July 3: In less than 48 hours of the launch of “Digital India Week” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi on July 1, Udhampur today achieved the distinction of becoming the first district in Jammu & Kashmir and 42nd district in whole of India to witness a formal launch of the programme by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh.
Based on the experience gained from the Digital India initiative in Udhampur, the other districts of the State will also be included in the programme subsequently.
Describing it as a historic day for Udhampur, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, this has not only brought Udhampur on the national map of India but has also made it a part of the global mainstream of a technology revolution taking place across the world. He looked forward to the day when Udhampur could become the “digital” hub of J&K, he added.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, during one year of the Modi government, several innovative programmes have been launched and while the programmes like “Jan Dhan Yojana” and “Jeewan Suraksha Yojana” are aimed to be pro-poor, the programmes like “Digital India” will not only place the country in the forefront of rapid hi-tech advancement but will also help in bringing about ease of governance which is an essential component of Prime Minister’s “maximum governance, minimum Government” emphasis.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the onus now lies on us to prepare and equip ourselves to make the best optimum use of the digital technology available to us. For this, he advised the district administration to hold workshops for their own awareness and also to educate the masses.
As an MP from the area, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, “it gives me immense pride that while district Kathua had achieved several firsts including the first bio-tech park of the State, first district to be included in “Aarogya Gram Yojana” and the first inter-State connectivity bridge, with today’s launch, Udhampur has also achieved the distinction of being the first district in J&K to officially adopt digital technology”. Minister of State Pawan Gupta, also discussed various aspects of the project and highlighted commitment of State Government for bringing in digital revolution for maximum transparency, public convenience and eliminating corruption. He expressed hope that district administration will be able to achieve the digitization road-map and better public service delivery.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Shahid Iqbal gave a detailed presentation regarding preparedness of district administration for launch of e-district project in Udhampur and around 30 services shortlisted for the project.
Earlier in the morning, soon after his arrival here, Dr. Jitendra Singh attended the ceremonial passing out parade of the Railway Protection Forces (RPF) at the BSF Training Academy. Addressing the newly trained cadets, he said, the nation is indebted to the sacrifices made by our para-military forces and the hardship undergone by them to ensure that all of us could live in comfort and security.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the Modi Government is committed to accord highest priority to the welfare of the security forces and will not compromise their interest for any other consideration. MoS Finance J&K Pawan Gupta, MLAs D.N. Bhagat & R.S. Pathania, DG RPF Rajiva Ranjan Verma, DC Udhampur Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, several prominent citizens and students from schools and colleges were present on the occasion.
