NEW DELHI, May 16: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today inaugurated the first-ever “permanent” Northeast stall called “Purbashree stall” at Dilli Haat.
Speaking to media persons after going around various sections of the stall, Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is significant that, in the past, temporary Northeast stalls were set up at Dilli Haat for a few days from time to time, but there was never a “permanent” Northeast destination at this venue. Therefore, he said, the opening of this permanent Dilli Haat stall devoted to Northeast is a reiteration of Modi Government’s commitment to the promotion of Northeast and the formal launching of the stall has taken place at a time when, just about ten days from today, the Modi Government will complete its two years in office.
Expressing the hope that this permanent regional display of traditional collections in the heart of New Delhi will help in promoting original handicraft/ garment culture and art of Northeast before the rest of the countrymen, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, in the times to come, this will also become a source of income and revenue for the benefit of the region. There is much to learn about the embroidery and garment skills and to that extent, the stall inaugurated here will serve as a permanent Northeast showcase for people from far and wide who visit the union capital of India, he added.
Looking back at one and a half years of his tenure in the Ministry of DoNER, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, he has made a humble effort to bring the rest of the country closer to Northeast and to make them realize what all distinctive trades endow the region but remain inadequately explored. He also referred to the success of “DoNER at Door step” experiment started by him wherein Camp Secretariat of DoNER Ministry is set up by rotation in each of the eight States. Similarly, the frequent tours of Union Ministers and fast track expansion of rail network, roads and waterways has opened a new chapter of development for the people of the region.
