NEW DELHI, Oct 25: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh has assured Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers of timely and speedy promotions.
Speaking to a delegation of IRS officers, who called on him at his Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) office to discuss their service related issues, Dr Jitendra Singh said, he has already issued instructions for their case to be expedited and said that the promotions orders will be issued soon. The officers profusely thanked the Minister and also exchanged Deepawali greetings with him.
In general also, Dr Jitendra Singh said, in the last few years, DoPT has been working relentlessly to curb stagnation in promotions in different services. He said, when the Modi government came in 2014, he was pained to see that every month, a number of government officials were attaining superannuation and getting retired from the service, either without a single promotion in their entire career or no promotion in the last 10 to 20 years. “We took a firm decision and in the beginning of this year, ordered en-mass promotions of as many as 4,500 government officials and, this process and tempo is being carried forward”, he said. In the cases where there were constraints on account of litigation, we try to find some or the other means to achieve a breakthrough, he added.
Modi government works without any prejudice, bias or favoritism, said Dr Jitendra Singh, and therefore, while the officials implicated for corruption or non-performance may be at the receiving end of punitive action, at the same time officers working with integrity and performing to their maximum potential will be ensured work-friendly environment and timely service incentives.
During the meeting, the officers also brought to the notice certain constraints suffered by them on account of service rules, in response to which the Minister said that all this will be sorted out without prejudice or bias, and in good faith.
