JAMMU, Apr 23: Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-ud-Din today ordered an inquiry into the non disbursement of money meant for free medication of cancer patients at Government Medical College Jammu. He also ordered attachment of Prof Ashutosh Gupta, Head, Department of Oncology with the Principal GMC, Jammu till the inquiry is completed.
The directions were issued during a surprise visit of the Minister to Regional Cancer Centre at GMC, Jammu following some complaints from patients.
The inquiry committee would be headed by Administrator, GMC and Associated Hospitals Reva Gupta and it has been asked to submit its report within shortest possible time. Mansoor Aslam, Personnel Officer GMC and Associated Hospitals is other member of the committee.
The Minister reviewed the functioning of Regional Cancer Centre with the concerned functionaries and asked the doctors to redouble their efforts to make the centre fully functional so that the patients suffering from cancer don’t have to travel outside the State for treatment.
The Minister also reviewed the functioning of SMGS and GMC Jammu. He directed the Principal, GMC to make necessary arrangements for starting evening clinics at Col Chopra Nursing Home as soon as possible.
In the review meeting, sources said that Taj issued necessary instructions for deployment of staff at the Super Specialty Hospital to make it operational by first of May.
Besides, the meeting also reviewed the sanitation at the hospital and measures being undertaken to further improve it.
Principal, GMC, Dr Aniece Choudhary, Medical Superintendent, GMC, Dr. Manoj Chalotra, several HoDs and senior doctors were present in the meeting.
