JAMMU, Aug 9: Son of the soil, Dr Akshay Gupta, Head of Department of Orthodontics, Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu, presented his research work on ‘Orthodontic Beyond Aesthetics 2017’ in the International Orthodontic Conference held at Prague (East Europe).
The Conference titled ‘IOS Midyear Convention 2017’ was conducted by the Czech Orthodontic Society in association with Indian Orthodontic Society in the East and Central Europe. The Convention was started on July 29 covering Zagreb, Budapest, Vienna and culminated at Prague on August 6.
While presenting his scientific deliberations on Orthodontic -Beyond Aesthetics, Dr Akshay said Orthodontics and Aesthetics are usually considered as two sides of same coin by general public or even general dentists and specialists in other fields of dentistry.
“The aim of this presentation is to emphasize that orthodontist work and clinical skills are much beyond the aesthetics, and how in many situations, role of orthodontist is limited not only for aesthetics but also to intervene in other clinical procedures, which if done without the lead role of orthodontist would have resulted in compromised/half done result,” Dr Akshay asserted.
During the convention, Dr Akshay presented some innovative cases for using orthodontic skills in providing better dental restorations and dental implants which include surgical extraction of impacted teeth followed by prosthesis Vs treatment of impacted teeth with orthodontics, extraction of fractured teeth Vs orthodontic extrusion followed by restoration, compromised restoration of missing front teeth with invasive procedures Vs adjunct orthodontics for non-invasive restorative dentistry and replace missing 1st molar Vs mesialization of 2nd molar.
In the end, Dr Eva Sramkova, President of Czech Orthodontic Society, awarded Certificate of Appreciation to Dr Akshay Gupta in the presence of various delegates participated from across the globe.
