KATHUA, Mar 24: The Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947 from PoK held a protest here.
The memorandums were submitted to Amit Shah, Home Minister and Manoj K Sinha, Lt Governor through Deputy Commissioner Kathua in respect of the said demands.
A large number of DPs assembled in front of the Deputy Commissioner office here and staged protest under the banner of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) led by Bhushan Sharma, President JKSAC Unit Kathua and Ashok Sharma and Darshan Kumar, President Tehsil Marheen, Hiranangar, Nagri and Kathua respectively.

While addressing the protestors Gurdev Singh, President JKSAC alongwith Khem Raj, Deepak Raina and Jasbir Singh said that both the MPs were requested many times to mount the pressure on the Central Government to accept and implement the JPC Report Number 183 which has recommended relief of Rs 30 lakhs each DP family alongwith reservation of their wards besides other components.
He further said that DPs of 1947 from POK has been discriminated deliberately by the previous Governments having certain ulterior motives which delayed their issues and put them in quagmire of chaos and confusion.
He said that DPs are demanding their legitimate constitutional rights of registration of claims and compensation for their left-out properties, reservations for the wards besides other issues. The DPs have been denied of their rights all along these years which resulted in their economical, educational and social backwardness.
The protestors appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to take seriously the cognizance of DPs legitimate issues and accordingly advise the UT Government to prepare a comprehensive road-map as per the JPC report number 183 for the final settlement of DPs.
Governor having further appealed to issue advisory to the revenue administration to issue PSP category certificate to DPs wards residing in district Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur.
