JAMMU, Apr 18: Former Congress MLC and a senior refugees leader, Ravinder Sharma has hit out at the BJP Government for the denial of the promised amount of relief package of Rs 30 lakhs per family, while thousands of applicants still waiting for the disbursement of the meagre amount of the relief package announced in 2015.
In a statement after series of interactions with the representatives of DPs in Sunderbani and Nowshera area during past five days, senior Congress leader lambasted the BJP Government at the Centre for the delay in the disbursement of the meagre amount of ex- gratia to thousands of eligible applicants, even after six years of its announcement besides the denial of the committed amount of Rs 30 lakhs per family, recommended by the Joint Parliamentary Committee and then State Government in 2014.
Sharma questioned the silence of the top BJP leadership of J&K on the issues, who were making commitments every now and then to the refugees/DPs before 2014 elections, to provide more than the recommended amount of Rs 30 lakhs to each family. After comming to power, both in the State and at the Centre, BJP leaders went into hibernation on the issue of full package for refugees/DPs and only meagre amount of Rs 5.5 lakh was announced, which too, has not reached the entire displaced families.
He said BJP has cheated the displaced community as each original family has split into atleast five to six families and practically each family got only 50,000 to less than one lakh. This is a cruel joke with the displaced people who were totally uprooted from the native places and lost several of their family members during 1947.
Former MLC expressed dismay that the package finally recommended by the then coalition government,in the state, after intervention by the UPA Government at the Centre, has not been fully sanctioned by the Modi Government when the BJP proclaims to be the great well wisher of the displaced Hindu people who had to undergo brutalities for their love to the mother land.
The BJP only exploited their religious sentiments and sufferings for vote bank politics but when it came their turn to fulfill the most genuine commitments, the BJP betrayed the displaced community.
