MENDHAR, May 27: Dozens of land mines are exploding as the forest fire has spread over 2-3 sq km area close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sub sector of district Poonch.
Officials sources said that fire spread from Jhanda Post of Pakistan and then it entered this side of the LoC early today. It has engulfed around 2-3 sq km of area of Deri Dabsi, closer to the fencing. The Army units have sounded alert. They along with Forest teams have started operation to contain wild fire. Villagers said that dozens of land mines are exploding since morning with the spreading of fire.
It is believed that fire has been deliberately lit by the troops on that side to facilitate the infiltration of armed militants. There is thick smoke in this entire belt but the troops on this side have gone on high alert.
