Dozens of animals buried under snow avalanche, 35 people rescued in Kulgam

SRINAGAR: Dozens of animals, including horses, died under a snow avalanche in Pirpanchal range in south Kashmir while 35 people were rescued, official sources said on Saturday.

They said a message was received that members of five families from Bakerwal community, comprising 35 people, including women and children, were caught in snow avalanche in Pirpanchal area in Kulgam. However, immediately a rescue operation was launched and all the 35 persons were rescued, they said.

However, dozens of their animals were buried under the avalanche, sources said adding further details are awaited. (AGENCIES)
