MENDHAR, May 11: Dozens of land mines exploded since last night due to forest fire in Balnoi and Balakote area of Mendhar sub sector.
Official sources said that the forest fire started from that side of the LoC and then it spread in larger area on this side of the LoC including Sonawali Gali and Khera posts near the LoC. A large number of mines exploded due to fire but no loss of human life has been reported. The Army has been put on high alert as some of the posts and infrastructure raised by them got affected in the fire.
It is believed that fire has been lit by the Pakistani Army or the militants on that side to facilitate infiltration from across the LoC. It has also caused extensive damage to animal species and the green trees in the area.
