DoT in collaboration with Shiv Mandir/Radha Krishna Temple celebrates Somnath Amrut Mahotsav

LEH, May 11 : The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with Shiv Mandir/Radha Krishna Temple, Leh, today organized a grand celebration of the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years of the restoration of the historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat.

The celebration highlighted India’s rich civilisational and spiritual heritage and paid tribute to the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, under whose leadership the restoration of the Somnath Temple was initiated after Independence.

The event followed the nationwide observance that included a 72-hour continuous “Om Chant” and the Somnath Swabhiman Mahotsav, organised to honour the thousand-year-old legacy of the sacred shrine and its enduring cultural significance.

Director Tourism, Tsering Paldan, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the significance of the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav in preserving and promoting India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.

He welcomed the participants, devotees, officials and members of the public who attended the programme in large numbers.

Administrative Secretary, Rudra P T Goud, who was the chief guest on the occasion, emphasized the importance of preserving religious and cultural identity while promoting harmony, humanity and mutual respect among all communities.

In his address, he stated that such celebrations are not confined to one religion alone but symbolize the collective heritage and values of humanity.

The programme also featured a live telecast of the national celebrations held at Somnath Temple in Gujarat, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers during the Somnath Amrut Mahotsav commemorating 75 years since the inauguration of the restored temple by India’s first President, Rajendra Prasad.

The live screening showcased the Prime Minister paying floral tributes to the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel before entering the temple premises during a grand roadshow at Somnath.

Devotees and attendees gathered at Shiv Mandir, Leh, watched the live proceedings with great enthusiasm and devotion.

A large number of devotees from Leh and nearby areas participated in the celebration at Shiv Mandir, Leh.

Officials from various departments and members of the public were also present on the occasion, making the event a vibrant tribute to India’s spiritual legacy and cultural unity.
